The Doll

A couple of years ago, Chris's parents brought Piper a darling handmade rag doll from Africa. This made me start wondering if I could find a doll made in Burma for the new baby.

Does God think of everything or what? On a web site that had baskets and purses made from around the world, guess what I found? The ONLY doll in the catalog just happens to be made by Karen women living in refugee camps in Thailand (the exact story of our birth mom before she arrived in the states 1 1/2 years ago). The doll is dressed in traditional clothing.

And for every doll purchased, a child in the refugee camp will receive a doll, too. Two different little girls, half way around the world from each other, will be given a wonderful gift. For our daughter it will be a piece of where she came from and for the other little girl it may be just what she needs until she gets to where she is going.

LOVE IT!

The doll can be found on the Amber Chand Web Site and is from the non profit organization WEAVE (Women's Education for Advancement and Empowerment) that has set out to support marginalized women and their children with health, education and training programs. They have established 39 nursery schools with over 3,500 children in three refugee camps in Thailand.
